BMC Ex Apprentices & Trainees
These pages are devoted to the "good old days", when an apprenticeship or traineeship with one of the major employers guaranteed those involved, excellent training for a future in which ever field they so desired.
In NSW, there was the New South Wales Government Railways, Qantas, Cockatoo Docks, the Department of Main Roads and many other institutions which took on large numbers of young men and women to train them for the good of Australia.
Unfortunately these are opportunities long gone.
For those fortunate few employed by BMC and Leyland (my register only records around 220, but there are many more), this is a time capsule to look back on and remember some of the good and not so good times.

Here are a few for starters. (sorry about the photo quality) (sorry about the photo quality)

Are you an Austin apprentice?

All the early apprentices indentured at the BMC Australia factory were actually Austin apprentices.

Under a special arrangement, Australian Austin apprentices have been accepted into the Austin Ex-Apprentices Association based at the original Austin (now Rover) factory in Longbridge, UK.
All pre-1960 apprentices who wish to be members should supply their personal details and postal address to be included in the mailout of the regular Newsletter.
Later ex-apprentices should fax me a copy of their original indenture papers to prove eligibility. I'm not certain which year they changed from Austin to BMC, although 1961 has been mentioned.
